Can VR Change Your Mind
Inspired by Thong Nguyen's TED Talk "Can VR Change Your Mind,"
This project is a visual exploration that bridges the world of virtual reality and human perception.
The poster, designed for a public audience, aims to communicate the profound potential of virtual reality to influence and expand our understanding of the world.
Sketch and Ideation
Sketched and brought to Procreate for color ideations and adjustments. Wanted to use bold and contrasting colors. A lof of the sketch features half-and-half illustration: one side of the subject’s face is represented as a VR avatar, with digital and abstract elements symbolizing the immersive world of virtual reality, while the other side maintains a grounded, realistic depiction of a human figure.

Finalizing Illustration- Procreate
Taking from Sketch ideation and coming up with the final illustration. First initial idea showcasing half human and half-robotic sketch
1st Initial Idea

Sketch Tryout

Color Ideation
Although I was in the process of finalizing my sketch, I realized that I was not satisfied. I believed it may have been too literal, and I was just not clicking, so I decided to restart.
2nd Try- Finalized

I have restarted my final sketch, but I took what I liked from my initial attempt, which was the composition. While I kept the composition, I fine-tuned the illustration, and rather than having it so its half-half, I decided to be an avatar fully immersed in the VR Space.
Color Iterations
Once I had come up with the final sketch, I tried various color iterations. I was leaning more toward pop colos and neon colors. I also wanted to try a lot of contrasting colors as well.

Color Iterations- Typography, Patterns

Based on my color iterations, I played around with 2 colors I felt strong about. I added in texts, textures, and background as well.
Color Iterations Development
While I liked the initial color iterations, I did more trials by adding in the final fonts and descriptions. During the process, I took what I liked from the initial sketch of the background, and I brought the patterns to the avatar itself.

I tried contrasting color ideation and I came to realize I loved the blue and red which are commonly contrasting colors and I decided to finalize my design.
Final Outcome

Final Outcome-GIF

The poster is accompanied by a dynamic GIF that enhances its futuristic vibe, with shifting contrasting colors and rotating text, guiding the viewer's focus and adding depth to the visual experience.

This design was created with the aim to engage a broad audience, sparking curiosity and stimulating conversation about the profound impact of virtual reality on human cognition and experience. It’s a bold representation of the tension between the real and virtual worlds, encouraging viewers to question the true nature of their own perceptions.
